Use hair protector and make a braid

Take a small section of hair (no thicker than a pencil) and make a braid. Secure the braid at the end by tying a piece of thread around it.
The hair protector is used to keep stray hairs from getting tangled in your braid. If you're finding hairs still get in the way, try dampening the surrounding hair.

Get your threading tool

Start to wrap the first colour

Hold the threads, including the tail you pulled through the braid, tight in one hand. Pull out your first colour and begin to wrap it tightly down the braid. Keep all the threads held firmly. If your wrapped thread shows braid through it, just use your fingers to push it up the braid to close up any gaps. Keep wrapping thread until you've taken the first colour down the braid as far as you want. You'll be covering the tail and the rest of the threads. Keep a good tension on the threads to make sure the wrap is tight and neat, but be careful not to pull the hair so much it’s uncomfortable.

Final knot

When you've tied the last colour in a knot around itself (described in the last step) tie another knot, this time tying the last thread and the thread bundle around each other. Again, just use a simple (half hitch) knot. Tie it once and then tie it again to make the end knot secure. If you want to add beads, make the knot as tight and small as you can so that you can push the beads up over the knot. Once your beads are on the wrap, you can then tie more knots at the end to keep them secure.When you've tied the last colour in a knot around itself (described in the last step) tie another knot, this time using the last thread and the thread bundle. Push beads onto your threader

This is why it's a good idea to do your wraps quite thin - it makes it far easier to get your beads on!
To start, push your beads onto the threader. You can either add one at a time or add a few together.
When the beads are on the threader, put your hair through the wire loop.

Pull hair through beads

Pull your hair through the beads using the threader. Push the beads up onto the wrap. It's a good idea to keep your bottom knot small so that you can push the beads over it. Finish off by tying a few knots at the bottom of the wrap to keep the beads in place. If you find that the bottom knot is too big to get the beads over, add the beads underneath it and tie more knots to keep them in place.

Tie charm onto a piece of thread

Choose a charm and tie it onto a piece of thread.

Either before you start wrapping thread or during the wrapping process, tie your charm onto the braid where you want it to be. It's better not the have charms near the top of the wrap as they can feel uncomfortable when you're lying down. We like adding them about 2 thirds of the way down as well as near to the end. When you’ve tied the charm onto the braid, leave the thread tails sticking out because you're going to wrap over them.
